Do people trade bitcoin like stock?

I'm new to all of this and apparently don't know much about bitcoin. I was wondering if people treat it like stock trading or as a long term investment. Like do they set certain interest and keep buying and selling it like stocks or but when it's low and keep it for a while and sell it?

Is there a way to trade ripple on a legitimate stock market, like Bitcoin?

Edit: found this
In my country, there is something called a tax-free account. We are allowed to invest in it, and keep 100% of our earnings. It might sound too good to be true, but it is.
For example, if one invests $10,000 in Ripple, and in 3 years it becomes a million dollars... we do not pay tax on it, at all.
The catch is, it must be a legitimate stock market or other such investment platform that is registered.
So, are there any stock markets with XRP on their platform?

Can bitcoin be traded like stock? Is it useful?

I'm new to Bitcoin and trying to figure out how to make some profit. I got quite confused because it is a currency but its value alters... so can it be traded like stock? Is it useful to buy when its value is low and convert it into physical currency when its value is high? Can you profit from that much?

On what basis do serious traders trade bitcoins? For stocks people look at the company's fundamentals, but there is nothing like that for bitcoin. Then what's the logic?

Bitcoin up as much as 6.9% today on world uncertainty, Shanghai index drops 14% in last 2 trading days, Dow down 350 pts (-1.95%) today, Puerto Rico on verge of default, Greek banks closed for 6 days and....gold up a measly $5.20 (+0.44%) today? Yes, gold, like stock markets is rigged. Decentralize.

If you ever needed evidence that central banks suppress the gold and silver prices to prevent panic, the proof is in the numbers today. Buy bitcoin and slay this dragon.

New to Bitcoin. Just want to clarify some things.

Like I said, I'm new to this whole thing. I get that read the Links on the sidebar, and I get the basic process. I just need to clarify things a bit.
From what I've read, it sounds like Bitcoin is an investment. It is a currency right? So do people trade Bitcoins like stocks on the stock market? (I do realize that as a currency, the value can fluctuate, but how often do these fluctuations occur, and how drastic are they?)

I am a noob, and I have a lot of questions. I would love some help.

1) Is 1 GH/s equal to 100 MH/s?
2) Is mining with this http://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage/30gh-bitcoin-miner.html a good or bad idea? Seems good to me, but what do I know.
3) Is it smarter to trade bitcoins like stocks or to mine them myself?
4) Can you sell bitcoins directly for cash at any moment?
5) Do I have to go into the underground internet or whatever that is? I would prefer not to.
6) Is now a bad time? Are litecoins a better option?
Thanks guys, I really want to get into this.
